Sofie added Elena Silvaâs name to the list and requested background information. Anna Kivi was still at work, even this late in the day, so she could be interviewed while Sofie waited for a response.
The door to the case room opened. Sofie turned, ready to send whoever was intruding out before she increased the security level. Rick stood smiling at her.
âAre you back?â she asked. Having him with her for the interview would be perfect.
âJust regrouping with my team. I got your message.â He nodded toward the wall. âAnything new?â
She told him about Haadiyaâs visit and the one new name.
âDonât know her.â He pointed to the list of names. âI know Rigby and Blackfeather. They are not suspects.â
âHow can you be so sure?â Sofie struck out the two names, her question just curiosity. Rick wouldnât have vouched for them for no reason.
âI vet the people I sleep with.â He grinned. âThoroughly. And it was recent enough to still be good. What about the Kivi woman? She keeps showing up, or am I reading that wrong?â
âNo. Sheâs my next interview, but I donât see anything about her life that points to too much credit or to a reason for blackmailing her into stealing. No kids, no family, no parents. Not many people who might be friends.â
âHow is it going alone?â Rick checked his pad.
âSo far okay. I havenât been pulled off a lead to react to an emergency. I donât know how long that will last.â
âI have to go,â he said after checking his pad again. âIf I can help, message me, but Iâm patrolling the troubled areas. I wonât be able to do much.â
Sofie thanked him and then locked the door behind her so she could finish her plan without interruption. The request queue indicated sheâd have her Silva report in five minutes. She could wait for that before heading out to Support.
She reviewed the notes from their original interview with Kivi that morning. The only impression she noted was that Kivi was lying. Rick thought so too. So sheâd work on finding the lie this time.
The Elena Silva report appeared on her screen. Manager of the warehousing location for all meds before distribution. Promising. Sofie checked, and the meds were only in the warehouse for a short time. Some just passing through to the delivery service, others for a day, but nothing longer than that. Silva would have to work fast, but there was definitely opportunity.
Silvaâs personal finances showed a little more balance than her salary merited, but not enough to confirm she was the culprit. Her shopping habits were exactly what Sofie would expect for a Support employee of that level. Whatever she was doing on the black market wasnât funded by her salary. The report was no help, and showed no reason to prioritize the Silva interview ahead of Kivi. Sofie requested a report on the womanâs movements in the last month and then packed her pad in a bag, checked her weapon, and headed out to Support.
